The Best of Marylebone
Share
A thriving enclave of independent shops and cafes hidden from the hordes of Oxford street - Marylebone is a secret gem.
Close to Regents Park (without a doubt our favourite park in London with its exquisitely planted flower beds and boating lake) Marylebone offers a village-like antidote to the crush of central London.
Boutiques, cafes, flâneurs, it is great to take a stroll and pop into one of the traditional old pubs and restaurants, or browse the shops.
Here is a selection of our favourite Marylebone spots:
Paul Rothe and Son
For us, our neighbours at Paul Rothe and Son really embody the ethos of Marylebone. A family run business since 1900, this traditional deli sells delectable fancies and classic British cafe food, specialising in freshly made sandwiches and soup. You can have any mix of sandwich filling that your heart desires - so long as they have the ingredients, just mix and match.
Jams preserves and chutneys in all flavours line the shelves and are perfect for afternoon tea, or for gifting. Oozing character, the shop takes you back in time as soon as you cross the threshold. The decor is timeless, harking back to the 50's, the 70's. It is a joy to support businesses like these as there really are fewer and fewer left.

Daunt Books
Another relic of a bygone era, Daunt Books resides in an Edwardian building said to be the World's first custom-made book shop, and you can tell! The exquisite oak galleries and skylights make it the perfect place to browse for books in comfort and with ease. Independent book shops are enjoying a bit of a resurgence as a backlash to 'you know who' stealing all the trade. Get out and support yours.

Rococo chocolates
Moxon Street is the Marylebone foodie destination, with three of the finest establishments to be found there. Rococo chocolates, La Fromagerie, and The Ginger Pig.
You will find Rococo Chocolates in a beautiful alchemist store on Moxon street. Delicious chocolates for every occasion come in a range of prices to suit every budget. Artisan bars in unusual flavours like Dark Violet, Rose, Dark Spice Island, Sea Salt, Almond and Rosemary can be procured for a very reasonable £6.95, then mini truffle boxes segue on to exquisite selection boxes for all occasions. They also offer an incredibly tempting subscription service that is making our mouths water just thinking about.
Heaven!

La Fromagerie
As well as being a cheese shop La Fromagerie is a gorgeous eatery serving seasonal food in-house (all produce they sell in the shop), with a takeaway option also. The menu changes daily and features such classics as kippers, avocado, pancetta all on toasted sourdough, alongside homemade muesli, cheese and charcuterie. Procure your specialty wines here too.
Service on a Friday night is set to resume March 2022 with a special evening menu. You won't be disappointed!
