Tomorrow it's First Thursday and Tracey Neuls East is hosting an exhibition of work by artist Katherine May.
Come down and join us at the Private View starting at 6pm
Venue: Tracey Neuls East, 73 Redchurch Street
Dates: June 7th - July 1st 2012
Inspired by a 1938 sketch by Enid Marx, of the Little Gallery Sloan Sqaure - Katherine May is showing swathes of patchwork farbics, made by a colour sorting process.
Katherine May is renowned for bringing a unique touch to the craft of quilt making, by combing her historical knowledge of the craft with a passion to keep the true beauty of quilts alive today. Her hand stitched pieces are crafted by collecting textile odds & ends that are sorted over time into an enlivening palette of fabrics.
Katherine May is exhibiting 100% textiles, in order to celebrate their recovery from the textile waste stream.
“Once everything else is stripped away, the value of old clothing lies in the purity of its colour and quality of fibres.” Waste of the World research project with UCL Anthropology department.
