SOUZOU
The Japanese word SOUZOU has two meanings; written one way it means 'creativity' and the other - 'imagination'. The latest show at the Wellcome collection looks to be a fine display of both, being the first exhibition of Japanese outsider art in the UK ever. The term 'outsider' refers to art made without tuition or an audience in mind, and we are encouraged to read the objects on display here as social commentaries, delving into the processes of making, meaning and the wider social context of outsider art. Curiosities galore!
