Tracey Neuls Review in SHOPIKON

February 05, 2014

‘Tracey Neuls is less of a shoe store (although the shoes themselves are worth a look) and more like a surrealist theatrical set, thanks to its magnificent displays. Picture a large dining table set in the center of a boutique, with shoes arranged on dinner plates and even more suspended in mid-air such that they can be easily admired from all angles. The shoes themselves are a breath of fresh air compared to the uniform offerings of high street – even the soles are designed from plasticine clay, contributing to their unusually shaped heels. Neuls launched her business in 2000 after winning London Fashion Week’s New Generation Prize and has since graced the pages of Vogue and ELLE, as well as garnered fans like designer Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garcons. Although they can hardly be described as “killer heels”, the shoes have a decidedly English air of the Bloomsbury Group about them. Yet none of them are quirky enough that they can’t be easily thrown on with a smart suit. Neuls has collaborated with a number of designers, brands and artists – most recently Toyko Bikes, creating a range of shoes with rubber soles and pedal-friendly heel shapes ideal for stylish cyclists’. – Viola Levy.
