David Hockney at The Lightroom Kings Cross

David Hockney's forthcoming exhibition: 'BiGGER & CLOSER not smaller & further away' will be at Lightroom, Lewis Cubitt Yard, Kings Cross from 22nd February until 4th June. This new four-storey exhibition space is equipped with the latest digital projection and audio technology, so you'll be in for lots of surprises.
From animated opera designs and audio visual works, to his renowned ipad 'paintings' Hockney has been a leader in creative technology and new media for some time now.
Lightroom's new space is located in Lewis Cubitt Yard, adjacent to Coal Drop's Yard, and the exhibition looks to be immersive, with the scaling up of some of his digital works to huge proportions. There will be an audio of Hockney talking through his processes as you proceed through the six stages of the exhibit, offering a rare chance to come close and personal to a living art legend.
As one of the leading contributors to the Pop art movement in London during the 1960's Hockney has long been one of Britain's most celebrated artists. Studying at the Royal College of Art in the early 60's he notoriously refused to do his final essay, stating that he should be examined solely on the quality of his artworks, forcing the RCA to change its policy.
Upon relocating to L.A. Hockney made his famous swimming pool Splash paintings using newly available high-viscosity acrylic paint colours, and his star continued to rise. In the 1990's he visited his birthplace of Yorkshire more frequently, eventually moving back there. He is enamoured by the changes in light in the English countryside and this has become the source of many of his recent paintings.
Judging by these preview images we think he'd approve of our new SS23 collection of tingling, zinging colours such as Karl Lilac and Geek Viola. United in understanding the importance of colour for mood enhancement...
