Toronto-based artist Kara Hamilton is celebrating the opening of a her latest exhibition at The Art Gallery of Ontario. Originally trained in architecture and design, the artist uses the exploration of materials and their histories as a way to confront the conventions of those disciplines.
In this show, the audience are presented with a series of found objects, they may be strange or familiar to us, but each has been transformed in such a way that we might question our usual spatial or narrative connections to the object, in doing so we are being invited to consider are own environment, whether natural or construction and how we share these spaces, with others and with objects.
The artist also experiments we jewellery and as part of our Canadian Christmas, we are lucky enough to be the sole UK stockists of a Kara Hamilton designed earring. These beautiful knotted studs, are available in silver or gold, sold separately and each one is like a tiny sculptural work of art, unique and timeless.
The exhibition: Water in Two Colours, opens on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Gallery 409, 4TH floor, Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St W, Toronto.
