BREAK THE GLASS is an exhibition that brings together three artists dealing with loss and recovery through their work, curated by London based artist, curator, and co-founder of Now Gallery - Jemima Burrill.
Our shoes have been part of Burrill's life for 20 years and her personal collection features in this latest series, Recovery. Sticking out of piles of rubbish, her legs become symbols of escape, resilience, and humour. Tracey Neuls shoes have always been synonymous with imagination, strength and individuality, and we are honoured that our shoes have been interpreted this way.
Charles Emerson, Jemima Burrill and Julia Maddison all use art as a way to grapple with the discomfort of their stories, examining losses of all descriptions through the mediums of photography, drawing and embroidery. From the loss of loved ones - to jobs - to the sense of self, this is a subject we can all deeply relate to, here portrayed with dark humour and vulnerability.
This colourful exhibition is open to all ages and will be held at Yorkton Workshops, London E2 8NH on April 3rd 6-9pm, then open on the 4th and 5th April 10-4pm.
