Frieze London
From 11th to 15th October 2023, Regents Park in London will be transformed into the creative epicentre of the world, as the Frieze art fair takes over.
In this special 20th anniversary edition of Frieze London, you will find a new, artist-led section - alongside the usual A-Z of participating galleries, a curated programme, events, talks, livestreams, awards, all shining light on the crème de la crème of the international art world.
We recommend Frieze artist award winner and Royal Academy graduate - Adham Faramawy discussing their new commission: 'And these deceitful waters', here.
Part archive material and part site-specific performance, the video-essay proposes connections between ecology and imperialism, across time, in this deep, poetic piece.
Frieze Masters
An antidote to the brightly lit contemporary space of Frieze London, is Frieze Masters. A cool, calm environment housing ancient treasures and masterpieces, you can get up close with artistic genius, from antiquity to the twentieth century.
This year, a new section: 'Modern Women', is curated by Camille Morineau, and looks at eleven women artists from the 19th-20th century, in a much needed revision of art historical bias.
The spot-lit eleven include American multi-media artist Faith Ringgold - who was involved in the feminist and civil rights movements of that time; and Scottish painter Ethel Walker, who was a strong supporter of the natural female form, believing that make-up, and heavy clothing that hid the form, distorted the natural beauty and integrity of the female body.
Frieze Sculpture
A lovely addition to the fair is the outdoor sculpture, housed in the English Gardens of Regent's Park. This year it is curated by writer and leading voice in contemporary art - Fatoş Üstek, and runs until 29th October.
We are looking forward to seeing the event associated with Holly Stevenson and Huma Kabakci's 'Eggism: How would you eat yours? The Vegan egg project, which invites you to consider the symbolic connotation of the egg and watch artist and curator talk about the ideas behind the work. Ponder the riddle - 'Which came first - the chicken or the egg', whilst indulging in a vegan egg of your own.
