PABLO Hot pink, My Go To Shoes For Lisbon
Share
Lisbon is a great long weekend away. Pack good shoes! The cobbled streets have meticulously hand laid stone blocks from checkerboarding to flower patterns to intricate geometrics. But as beautiful at they are, the hills are steep, really steep and you need a good pair of shoes to take you up and down and up again.
Of course Lisbon has all the expected hand painted tiled buildings and traditional sights you would imagine as its the second oldest capital city in Europe. Explore away but here are a few tips on other things not to miss.
There are designer hotels galore but we enjoyed The Vintage. Its positioned centrally and the ambience is soothing. Mid Century Modern pieces adorn the common areas with a roof top bar to relax in the open air. The lighting was just right.
Speaking of mid century modern, near the hotel there is Art Now who is worth a visit. However our favourite Yoyo had a delicious selection of rare pieces from lights you might smuggle back in your hand luggage to seating that might make you wish you lived in Lisbon so you could take it home. Moblerstore had their own collection of finds, well positioned in an area you might want to take in diner (Magnolia) or drinks around (Foxtrot).
Food in the city was sophisticated and cocktail bars even more adventurous. As well as what I have mentioned, there is a local that was exceptional. The knowledgable and friendly staff at O VelhoEnricou lead you through a menu that was chalkboard written fresh every day. I hesitate sharing this top tip because it was so good. On the other end of the spectrum, we tried Prado with its minimal setting and again - amazing staff. Inventive dishes to share were on offer with the Squash in Brown Butter being one of the highlights - a surprise to me. If you visit, you’ll have a totally seasonally fresh menu of different dishes to try- let us know what you found delicious! Bahr was a bit of a no brainer, roof top bar and restaurant from Nuno Mendes. If you get a chance to book on the outside deck, do. The views are as tasty as the food. If you like an Espresso martini, they are great here.
